July 1, 2011 Pricing Update
We appreciate your business over the past years. We have found we need to update our pricing schedule to reflect the current economic situation and our family’s business values. We sell our cheese at the cost of our production and therefore cannot offer large volume discounts. We appreciate customers who pay cash for the cheese they order, or at least communicate when they will be able to pay in a timely manner. We realized through experience that we prefer to work with small businesses who want to sell a healthy product, and build relationships with other like minded people. We want offer the same low prices to everyone, but specifically want to reward customers who pay promptly. We prefer customers that consistently order smaller amounts of cheese because that is the way we produce our high quality farmstead cheese, cellar aging each wheel, hand turning, scrubbing, and individually packaging each wheel at the optimum time. The other consideration in our pricing change is new regulations and “hidden taxation.” We are experiencing the Pa Department of Agriculture new rules, hosting 6 inspectors instead of 2, increasing paperwork, and are paying new licensing and permit fees this year. We are also paying additional fees to the Pa Milk Marketing Board and the National Dairy Board. The cost of producing cheese, delivering it to customers, and shipping has also gone up. The following prices attempt to address some of these changes.
Market/Festival price for small wedges of cheese: $6.00 per half pound
On the Farm price: $4.00 per half pound
Wholesale prices: (20 pounds or more)
$7.50 per pound of small prepackaged wedges + shipping
$7.00 per pound of whole wheel or half wheel of cheese + shipping
$9.00 per pound of preordered, year + aged and reserved cheese + shipping
We will be offering a 10% cash discount for cheese paid before shipping or at delivery. Payment by credit card when ordering earns a 5% discount. Thanks for your understanding and support of our family farm.
